- What is WalletConnect
WalletConnect is an open source protocol that provides a point-to-point secure encrypted connection and allows your wallet to connect and interact with DApps and other wallets by scanning a QRcode or clicking on a deep link. WalletConnect allows users to interact with any DApps without compromising the security of their private keys and can receive notifications of incoming transactions on mobile devices.
WalletConnect basically focuses on allowing users to interact with DApps on the web without having to install a Metamask. Instead, the users can directly use mobile wallets to connect to DApps on various web pages. In this way, key management can be completed on the device, and at the same time, scanning the code to log in is more in line with the habits of users who generally use the Internet.

What WalletConnect does for wallets and DApps is similar to what TCP/IP does for web technologies and web applications.
All of the network technologies provide bandwidth, but combining them is very difficult because each network has different interfaces, packet sizes, conventions, and transfer rates. It means that applications built for one network technology cannot easily be used for another network technology.
If we consider the ecosystem as a two-way market for supply (bandwidth) and demand (applications), the original internet faced a cold start problem. New network technologies must be designed for differentiated use cases. TCP/IP emerged and unified this ecosystem. Its minimalist, unassertive nature makes the protocol universal across applications based on it and the technologies that support it.
Likewise, by acting as a minimalistic, opinion-free protocol, WalletConnect tells any wallet and any DApp how to communicate with each other. WalletConnect fosters innovation on both sides by decoupling the DApp ecosystem from the wallet ecosystem, allowing the two markets to grow independently while exposing the highly diverse and competitive wallet market to the highly diverse and competitive DApp market.
